Description:  Structural and mechanical failures often can be explained by defects in design, material quality, construction, or manufacturing. Sometimes, however, things fail for reasons that could not have been reasonably predicted or accommodated in advance. Principles of structural and mechanical reliability will be introduced, and example failure scenarios will be presented and discussed.
