The LADC is happy to offer this CLE free of charge to all attendees o f our Annual Awards Dinner. Medical lo sses are expected to mount as the global pandemic intensifies, some directl y attributable to COVID-19 and others indirectly related. It is well known in the field of economics that medical charges are not indicative of reaso nable value, the typical standard for medical losses. We will present some background and methodology on how to covert medical charges from past and future medical bills to reasonable value.
Speakers John E. Schneider is the CEO and founder of A
valon Health Economics. His PhD is in Health Services and Policy Analysis f
rom the University of California Berkeley, with a concentration in health e
conomics. He has over 30 years of experience studying economic and organiza
tional aspects of the health care industry. Dr. Schneider’s expertise inclu
de: economic evaluation of new pharmaceuticals, devices, and diagnostics (i
ncluding outcomes research and other forms of technology assessment); prici
ng and reimbursement; analysis of medical care costs (costs of illness; val
uation of medical services and supplies); health insurance & managed ca
re; regulation, hospital competition, and health care markets; specialty ho
spitals; physician ownership; contracting; antitrust; and trademark infring
ement. Cara Scheibling is a Director and Principal at Avalon Health Economics. She has her MBA from University of T ennessee. In addition to her role in business management and development, C ara’s focus is on cost accounting, cost analysis, and economic valuation. W ith more than 10 years of experience in health economics, Cara has develope d expertise in developing cost estimates for economic models of pharmaceuti cals and medical devices, developing unit cost measures for model adaptatio ns, and estimating reasonable costs of medical services in a variety of hea lth care litigation applications.
